Job Description

Locum 4 Nurses is recruiting an Advanced Nurse Practitioner to deliver same‑day and acute care for a GP practice in Dundee.

Role summary

This post focuses on high‑volume same‑day demand, triage and rapid clinical decision‑making within the GP practice team.

Main duties in a GP practice

  • Undertake autonomous assessment of undifferentiated presentations (minor illness, acute exacerbations, urgent on‑the‑day demand).
  • Diagnose, treat and prescribe within scope (including independent prescribing where appropriate) and arrange follow‑up or onward referral.
  • Manage telephone/online triage and convert to face‑to‑face appointments when clinically indicated.
  • Order and interpret investigations (e.g., bloods, urinalysis, ECG where trained) and document clinical reasoning clearly.
  • Escalate to the duty GP or emergency services when red‑flags are identified.

Working pattern

3 days per week (set sessions across Monday–Friday).

What we’re looking for

  • ANP with current NMC registration and recent primary care (general practice/PCN) experience.
  • Confident autonomous decision‑making and safe prescribing/medicines management.
  • Strong documentation and risk management with evidence‑based practice.
  • Ability to work at pace while maintaining patient safety and good patient experience.

Systems & ways of working

  • EMIS Web or SystmOne experience (preferred).
  • Comfortable working with practice protocols, PGDs and local referral pathways.
  • Collaborative handovers with GPs, practice nurses, reception and PCN teams.
